Public punishment is alien to me. My country's government preferred to kill in secret and spirit the bodies away, and I have always thought of that as the best way. Giving the cruel a figure they can point and laugh at...it seems inhuman. Is this not unnecessary, exposing him like this? Yuri is repentant enough.

It isn't for the cruel to have a figure to laugh at. It's to execute justice, and to show that the laws have been and will continue to be followed. By executing offenders in secret and spiriting bodies away as you say, do you mean that the government would rather keep such trespasses unknown to the general public as well to keep up the illusion that nothing wrong has happened at all?

In this case, however, it's for the victims that Yuri had killed and hurt.

I believe it is an improvement over France, who often held as entertainment the beheading of criminals or simply those not well liked by the politicians.

...I understand. Did Yuri do this of his own will?

Yuri is accepting of this sentence. I didn't force him to take responsibility for this. He knew and understood the gravity of his crimes.

I meant, did Yuri commit these crimes of his own will?

No. But he's chosen to take responsibility for them.
