Yuri Lowell will be sentenced today for murder and assault. The punishment will be a hundred lashes: ten lashes for each victim killed and assaulted during the duration of his rampage. This sentence will be carried out today at Xanadu, at two o'clock.

Yes. This is a matter we've decided on carrying out even before your arrival. A few weeks ago, Yuri had not been in a right mind and went about murdering and assaulting people. This is for that time.
deadly_legacy: (Worried - Sad about this)

[personal profile] deadly_legacy 2009-12-22 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
That's...terrible.

But if he wasn't in his right mind then how can you punish him?

[identity profile] srslynotguy.livejournal.com 2009-12-22 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
I wish it were as easy as that, but regardless of how this city resurrects the dead, that won't change the fact that at least three innocent people were killed brutally as a result of his actions... and that there could be more to add to that count.
deadly_legacy: (Cautious)

[personal profile] deadly_legacy 2009-12-22 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
The city does that? [She needs to read her guides instead of listening to the network so much. But moving on!]

What was affecting his mind? [This situation does not sit right with her.]

[identity profile] srslynotguy.livejournal.com 2009-12-22 05:32 am (UTC)(link)
At first it was a curse of some sort afflicted to him by the city. After that, however, he was under the influence of something that granted him immense power and a great deal of mental imbalance. It took as days before we could extract this something and put him back to his right mind.
deadly_legacy: (Concerned - Leaning forward)

[personal profile] deadly_legacy 2009-12-22 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
Then he is not the one who committed those acts. Not entirely. You'd be punishing an innocent man!

[identity profile] srslynotguy.livejournal.com 2009-12-22 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
I'd like to think that as well. I would love to believe that alone! But it doesn't work that way.

At the end of the day, people were hurt and killed! It's not something either- any of us can easily forget with a wave of a hand and a drink at the pub.
deadly_legacy: (Desperate - Arguing)

[personal profile] deadly_legacy 2009-12-22 05:46 am (UTC)(link)
They can't be helped by punishing a man who would not have committed those acts if he'd been able to avoid it! Don't do this, Flynn. [One part pleading and two parts princess in charge...even if she's well out of her jurisdiction.]

[identity profile] srslynotguy.livejournal.com 2009-12-22 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
I know that it won't help them. It won't turn back the time or give life back to those who were killed.

[ through grit teeth. ]

But I have to do this. I'm sorry, Lady Euphemia.
deadly_legacy: (Resolute - May scold you)

[personal profile] deadly_legacy 2009-12-22 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
No, you don't! You can choose to show mercy! Flynn...

[identity profile] srslynotguy.livejournal.com 2009-12-22 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
That kind of mercy would be a punishment for Yuri as well. An even worse punishment.
deadly_legacy: (Concerned thoughts)

[personal profile] deadly_legacy 2009-12-22 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
You can't take someone's guilt, misplaced or otherwise, away with a lash!

[identity profile] srslynotguy.livejournal.com 2009-12-22 07:23 am (UTC)(link)
No, I can't. Their guilt is for themselves to deal with.
deadly_legacy: (Worried - This could be bad)

[personal profile] deadly_legacy 2009-12-22 07:29 am (UTC)(link)
Then what good does this do for anyone?

[identity profile] srslynotguy.livejournal.com 2009-12-22 07:33 am (UTC)(link)
This is so we don't forget the importance of a life, even in a place where people never truly die, and for Yuri to be able to continue living by his ideals.
deadly_legacy: (Cautious)

[personal profile] deadly_legacy 2009-12-22 07:41 am (UTC)(link)
It sounds as if that is a lesson already learned without the need for violence.

[identity profile] srslynotguy.livejournal.com 2009-12-22 07:45 am (UTC)(link)
I'm afraid that even if the lessons are learned, there are things that can't be taken back.

I'm sorry you had to see this.
deadly_legacy: (Speaking - royal proclaimation time)

[personal profile] deadly_legacy 2009-12-22 07:49 am (UTC)(link)
Don't do this, Flynn.

...I am Third princess and Sub-viceroy Euphemia li Britannia, and I order you to stop!

Lady Euphemia...

[ And this is a taste of what Lady Estellise would have likely done in this situation. With a heavy heart, he must... ]

Why not hold a trial? I believe it is innocent until proven guilty.

[identity profile] srslynotguy.livejournal.com 2009-12-22 06:15 am (UTC)(link)
I'm afraid there isn't much that can prove Yuri innocent for the deaths of his victims. He has witnesses.

[identity profile] wishsrequiem.livejournal.com 2009-12-22 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
There are different forms of pleas.

[identity profile] srslynotguy.livejournal.com 2009-12-22 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
This isn't an action based on a witnesses' hearsay alone. He has killed people and there is simply no ambiguity left in this matter as a result of its severity for me to be able to justify his actions as a result.
